Obituary for Kevin C. Rawson (15th Co.) added to Memorial page

Kevin “K.C.” Rawson, 67, passed away on Friday, October 13th, 2023, in a local hospital in Memphis, TN. After undergoing emergency heart surgery, K.C. fought hard for over two weeks in critical care. The severity of his condition was too extensive, and he passed away with family at his side. His family and friends are deeply saddened by his unexpected passing.

K.C. was born on December 7th, 1955, to Arthur and Patricia Rawson in Portsmouth, VA, where he was the fifth child of six; Arthur III, Margret, Catherine, Patricia, and Lee. Kevin graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1978. During his time at Annapolis, he found his passion in mechanical engineering, navigation, and Navy Football. After graduating, K.C. was on active duty as a Surface Warfare Officer for 5 years. During one of his deployments, K.C. met Muriel Kotalawala who was studying to become a nurse in England. They soon thereafter married in 1983 and raised 3 children together, Veronica (1984), Heather (1987), and Casey (1991). Years later Kevin and Muriel greeted their 4 energetic grandchildren, Noelle (2015), Naomi (2017), Fredrick (2020), and Theo (2021).

Kevin worked as an Energy Manager and Facility Sustainability Officer for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for 7 years. Kevin is a second-generation Eagle Scout and served as an Eagle Board Review Chairman for Chickasaw Council and spent more than 10 years as a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 457. During his tenure, he was honored with the following awards:
• Gold, Silver, and Bronze Palms
• Ad Altare Dei Award
• Silver Beaver Award
• Brotherhood in the Order of the Arrow
His most cherished award was the 2023 Golden Spatula for Summer Camp Adult Cook-off. He competed for seven consecutive and won with his famous Chicken and Dumpling recipe.
Everyone who knew K.C. saw how generous, kind, caring, hardworking, and corky he was. He often showed these traits by cooking for his friends and family and shouting his favorite phrase “Go Navy! Beat Army!” He will be missed dearly by all lives he has touched.
