Class of 24 Midshipman is a Boston Marathon Bombing Survivor

A decade ago, MIDN Aaron Hern ‘24 was cheering for his mother, Katherine Hern ‘94, as she ran the Boston Marathon when a bomb exploded just feet away from MIDN Hern – one of two that exploded during the 117th Boston Marathon in 2013.

MIDN Hern survived with shrapnel wounds that would require surgery and lengthy rehabilitation. Today, he honors the legacy of those lost by pursuing a life of service as a Midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy. Both of his parents, Katherine ‘94 and Alan ‘93, attended USNA.
