Chapel Dome Mementos

Classmates,

Restoration of the Naval Academy Chapel is underway requiring the removal and replacement of all the copper that has adorned the building since 1928. Rather than see this metal, and all the memories associated with it, go to waste, the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association has partnered with Herff Jones to create a limited number of unique heirlooms crafted from the beautiful, patinaed-copper of the dome. But before I give you the website where you can place your orders, let me tell you about how you can customize some of the items being offered.

We are working with Herff Jones to have our class crest available for you to customize six different items: Challenge coins, a paperweight; an ornament; a brick with your name on it; a pendant, and customized frames for various pieces of artwork. Currently there are four challenge coins from which you can choose to customize by changing the back side of the coin and adding our class crest. However, we are working to add a “fifth” challenge coin that will have an image of the chapel dome on the front side with the words “ETERNAL FATHER” on top of the image, and the words “STRONG TO SAVE” below the image.  The back will have our Class Crest and the words “CLASS OF 1978.”

Please be aware that our class crest is not yet ready. It will take another 3-4 weeks before the art work for our crest is available. Once it is available, the Class of ’78 will have its own site from which to place orders, and I will send you another email.

If you do not intend to customize your items with our class crest, then please fire when ready. You can see these items, and make purchases, at this website: www.usnachapeldome.com.

Stay healthy out there, brothers.

Fair winds…
