Passing of Libby Diffie

Dear ‘78 Classmates and Brothers,

It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of Libby Diffie, beloved wife and soulmate of our 10th Company brother, Craig. Libby battled quietly and courageously for six years with metastatic breast cancer before she finally succumbed on July 20th. She died peacefully at the Diffie home in Vienna, VA.

A memorial service will be held at 10AM on Saturday, September 30th, at McLean Baptist Church in McLean VA. Libby will be inurned on a future date in 2024 at Arlington National Cemetery with her father, CAPT Curtis McDowell, USN, and their son, Cpl Samuel Bush Diffie, USMC.

Libby was a beautiful soul who was passionate about her role as a teacher and nurturer of her students and children. She was a ferocious advocate for improving the lives of children through quality education and reading. One wonders at the countless lives she impacted not only as a teacher but also as a mother, wife, and friend.

Please keep Craig, their son, Douglas, and the Diffie and McDowell families in your thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, Craig and his family ask that you consider donating to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. You may read Libby’s obituary in today’s Washington Post.
