In the June 2020 Shipmate, the Class of 1951 column had a paragraph and the picture of the banner above of their classmate Clyde Welch being immortalized on the Coronado, California, Avenue of Heroes. Commander Clyde Welch is the father of Rodger Welch (11th Co.) and like Rodger was a single seat jet pilot flying A-4s as the VA-164 Executive Officer. Commander Welch was killed October 26, 1966 when fire broke out on the USS Oriskany killing 44 and injuring 156.
