The Passing of Matthew Sears, USNA ’19

Classmates,

It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you of the passing last night of Matthew Sears, Class of 2019 and the son of our classmate, and 36th Company’s, Michael and Julie Sears.

It was almost two years ago to the day that Matt was diagnosed with leukemia – just after having duty, the day after Army-Navy. Since then, he fought with a certain stoicism, courage, determination and strength. He was everything we hope our Midshipmen and all our children will become. Matt will forever remain to me an inspiration and my hero.

Please remember Michael and Julie in your thoughts and prayers and pass to them in spirit- your loving, consoling embrace.

There will be a service next month, January 12th at 10:00 a.m. in the Naval Academy Main Chapel followed by internment at the Naval Academy Cemetery. We will notify you if there are any changes or of any further updates.

Launchin’ Spot Four with the “Sky Pilot” and prayers.

Semper Fidelis,

Vince
