NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: NNE) appointed Vice Admiral Charles J. “Joe” Leidig, Jr. (Ret.) as Chairman of its Executive Advisory Board for Naval Nuclear Initiatives, according to a company statement.
Leidig will guide the company’s initiatives to support U.S. Naval operations with nuclear power solutions, including potential use of NANO Nuclear microreactors for propulsion and baseload power on operating bases.
The former naval officer served as Deputy to the Commander for Military Operations, U.S. Africa Command from August 2010 to June 2013, concluding a 39-year Navy career. His previous roles included serving as the 80th Commandant of Midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy and commanding USS Cavalla (SSN 684). He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1978 and holds a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
“The U.S. Navy’s long record of safe, reliable nuclear propulsion has shown how compact reactors can deliver consistent power under demanding conditions,” said Leidig. “NANO Nuclear brings that same spirit of innovation to the next generation of microreactors for potential civilian and military use.”
NANO Nuclear develops portable nuclear microreactor technologies and operates subsidiaries focused on nuclear fuel fabrication, transportation, and space applications. The company’s reactor products in development include the KRONOS MMR Energy System, a stationary high-temperature gas-cooled reactor currently in construction permit pre-application engagement with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
“Vice Admiral Leidig’s appointment further strengthens NANO Nuclear’s roster of leading public- and private-sector advisors,” said James Walker, Chief Executive Officer of NANO Nuclear. “His firsthand experience directing the Navy’s nuclear-power initiatives will be invaluable as the country looks for efficient, long-life energy solutions.”
