Passing of Harry M. Woods (9th Co.)

Dear Classmates, Brothers, Family and Friends,

October has been a very rough month for our ’78 family. Once more, we are saddened to inform you of the loss of one of our brothers, Harry Woods (9th Co). Some of you have already heard the news that Harry passed away in San Diego, CA, on Monday, 4 October, due to complications associated with COVID. Harry is survived by his son, Glen S. Woods (’10). Our prayers, and thoughts for comfort go out to Glen and I assured him of the many “Shipmates” and “uncles” in the Class of ’78 who are here for him. More information will follow regarding memorial services as they are firmed  up.

Ninth Companymate and good friend, Marcus Fisk, summed up Harry best when he wrote:

“A light has gone out for 9th Company Class of ’78 with the passing of Harry Mac Woods. It is altogether fitting that he is center in this shot [a reunion photo]– just as he was the center of joy in our young lives. His departure chips away at that foundation, that belief we all shared — one of youth, promise, and adventure. ‘We few, we happy few, we band of brothers’”.

Now that Harry has left us, there is a little less joviality in the world but there forever remains the fond and fun memories he left us that will always leave a smile on our faces.
