Passing of Alex Hnarakis (13th Co.)

Classmates,

Sadly, I must announce the passing of another of our classmates, and my company-mate, Alex Hnarakis (13th CO).  Alex passed away May 3, 2018, after nearly a 3-year challenge with a rare cancer called Medullary Thyroid Cancer. Alex did not want to burden everyone with his diagnosis and became his own program manager for his health. He always reminded everyone that he “lived his dream.”

Funeral mass will be on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at 10:00am, at Holy Cross Church, 13955 Peach Hill Road, Moorpark, CA. A reception will immediately follow the mass in the church hall. Burial for those that want to attend will be at 1:45pm at Assumption Catholic Cemetery, 1380 Fitzgerald, Simi Valley, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donation to Lazarex.org, the only non-profit foundation that supports families in clinical trials. Most trials are not free and not reimbursed, so Lazarex helps those in financial need to save their life by traveling to a trial when money is a problem.

I remember on most Sunday nights first class year in Bancroft Hall, 7-0 was filled with Alex’s parachutes as he repacked them for his next jump.  I never understood why he wanted to jump out of a perfectly good airplane! I know, just for the thrill of it!

Please keep Alex’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

Fair winds, Alex…
